Australia s Toughest Sell - Snowtown Bank Is On The Market
Rating:

Ever thought making a sale was tough? How’s this for a hard sell.

It’s a solid brick, four bedroom house. . Attached shop/ex-bank building complete with vault. “Simply an ideal home for a family requiring space and either a home business premise or and/games room” is how eBay puts it.

The one downside? The bank just happens to be the Snowtown Bank - once the setting of the Snowtown murders, also called the Bodies in Barrels murders.

Yes, the site of one of Australia’s most horrific murder sagas has been listed for sale. After initially being pulled down from eBay flagged as “inappropriate” – turns out eBay has a ‘no murder memorabilia’ policy – the eligible property is back up and waiting for bidders.

The listing states: ''"The old bank building was originally operated by the State Bank and sold in approximately 1995. It has since been used as rental for commercial purpose and more recently as a band room/games room and setting for the movie ‘Snowtown'.

  • Buyers should note that illegal activities were conducted in the old bank building and you should enquire to the nature of these activities prior to bidding."''

Currently listed on the auction site beginning at $1000 with a reserve of $200 000, it is now up to agent Nigel Christie of Hales Real Estate to work his magic. And if ever there was a time for delicate phrasing in a sales pitch, it’s now.

In 1999 the bodies of 8 victims were discovered locked inside the ex-bank’s vault, bundled into barrels of acid. The town of Snowtown, 145 km north of Adelaide, was rocketed to infamy with the discovery.

The property was also used in the film Snowtown, which chronicles the story of John Bunting, the ringleader of the 4 people charged with the murders.

Whether the property is suited more for an adventurous family, a history buff or someone with a crafty business idea to leverage its history, within 30 days someone will win themselves a nice, cozy piece of history.
