Greek Creditors Signal Deal ~ Weather To Mellow ~ Jurrah Battles Demons

KBB Morning Snapshot

Greek Creditors Signal Deal

World markets surged upwards overnight on word that Greece’s private creditors have signalled their readiness to do a deal cutting up to 75% off the value of their debt.

In Franfurt ECB President Mario Draghi refused to comment on the Greek debt swap since “the operation is unfolding.”

However the market reaction suggests it’s as good as sealed after Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos told Cabinet ministers Greece had made “an appropriate framework with significant incentives’ to finalise the deal.

Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos echoed that sentiment, telling Greek Parliament that “a historic process will be completed tonight.”

The concrete results of the deal will be confirmed tonight.

Weather Forecast to Mellow

The massive front wreaking havoc across the eastern seaboard will move out to sea today, although rivers will remain full and surf wild over the weekend.

Yesterday it was Sydney’s turn to cop a torrential downpour as flash flooding whirled through inner city suburbs. Traffic was hideous and trains were severely delayed as the weather bore its brunt on Australia’s largest city.

Further out, residents around the Hawkesbury, Georges and Napean Rivers remain on edge as water levels linger unnervingly close to breaching their banks.

Jurrah Battles Demons

Melbourne Demons small forward Liam Jurrah has been arrested and charged over a machete attack in a remote Alice Springs camp.

Twenty three year old Jurrah, the first player from a remote central Australian community to play in the AFL, had been granted personal leave from the club to help with family and community issues.

Around midnight on Wednesday police were called to the camp and found a 35 year old man suffering serious head injuries. They subsequently arrested Jurrah and another 23 year old man allegedly responsible for the attack.

The mercurial Jurrah was the Demons leading goalkicker last season with 40 goals from his 18 games.
