There’s a 33% chance that you’re working at your dream job right now.
According to new research by professional networking site LinkedIn, nearly one in three people currently have their childhood dream job, or work in a career related to it.
Meanwhile 34% of people say they still dream of having the job they imagined as a child. So what are these jobs?
According to the survey of over 8000 people around the world, including more than 400 Australians, the top 5 childhood dream jobs for Australian women were teacher, writer, doctor/nurse, vet or singer.
For male little Vegemites, the most common career dreams were of being a pilot, engineer, scientist, athlete or teacher.
Sadly 17% of respondents said their dream job was too hard or expensive to pursue, while 13% went for a more lucrative career instead.
But the overwhelming majority said their dreams changed with age as 43% of professionals cited, “as I got older, I became interested in a different career path,” as the main reason for working in an unrelated field.
So which group are you in? Are you working in your dream career? And if not, why not?
